I have the temperature set low on the freezer side and the ice maker is off but I notice large sheets of ice on the floor of the freezer side (underneath the plastic food holder, that slides in and out.I have to chip the ice out but it is back in a week. My attention is drawn to this problem when I notice a puddle of ice on the floor.baffled!!!!

Don't chip the ice out, use a hair drier as you may crack the units floor.

Sounds like the drip tube (Item 225 in Section 3) from the freezer to the drip tray under the unit is plugged.
It is probably behind the evaporator coil cover.
Check that it is open. You may have to flush it out.
If you can see any junk growing in it also flush it with a 10% bleach solution to kill the stuff.
Also check under the unit to ensure it is not clogged at the drip tray end with dust, animal hair etc.
When flushing it out check the tray often so you do not overflow it.

Probably a good time to clean your condenser coils.
