I have replaced the water filter on my GE Profile PSI23SGNAFBS
but the water still tastes bad!! Could it be the plastic tubing that feeds the water filter or the tubing that dispenses the water on the front of the fridge. GE was no help on this or my local dealer. Any help will be appreciated. Thanx

As a technician, this problem comes up every once in a while, and is difficult to pinpoint,the conclusion I have come up with is to replace the water valve. It has worked sometimes, and others it has not. I would start by disconnecting the waterline from the fridge and taste the water directly from the source, and go from there.

About 5 years ago, GE changed the model of filter that goes in their profile refrigerator. The water tastes very bad when run through this filter. If I remove the filter, the water tastes exactly as it does from the tap. Put it in and it tastes great for a couple of days. Then it starts tasting horrible again. I have tried buying the filter 3 times. I don't see how it can be the tubing or valve if the water taste fine without the filter. I contacted GE and they deny there is any issue with the new model filter. Buying bottled water is getting pricey after all these years. Suggestions?

Water tasting noticeably better now. I changed out the drinking water holding unit and all the interior tubing from the back of the fridge to where it connects to the piece of tubing that goes up the freezer door. My guess is it would be even better if I replaced that last piece of tubing in the freezer door (that looked like more of a challenge to replace) and if I also changed out the tubing behind the refrigerator. For now, this is a big improvement in taste. I think what made the biggest difference was changing out the clear plastic drinking water storage tank. It was nasty since some crap settles in the bottom of it and never flushes out.

I recently had a customer who had bad tasting ice. She'd had technicians from the place she purchased her fridge out, and they replaced the supply lines to the fridge, added water filters, but the problem persisted.

The problem actually started under the house. The fridge is on a wall opposite the kitchen sink and the dishwasher, so it was the only thing using water at the end of a long run of copper line, about 10 to 12 feet of it. Since the ice maker doesn't cycle allot, the water in that line was getting stagnant.

I ended up running a new line from a supply line in the adjacent room where the washing machine is. It was much shorter and didn't leave the fridge at the end of the line. And that was the end of her problem.

Check the supply line under your home if you can. If there's no other way around it but that it be at the end of a long run, try running a smaller line to reduce the amount of water that sits in the line, and flush it often.
