The washer has a very high squeal on spin. What should I look for? Could it be a bearing, idler, transmission, brakes or what?

Very hard to tell because to diagnose a noise like yours we have to listen to its pitch and location.

I suggest you operate the machine with the front panel off and see if you can locate the area it is coming from. Then use this service manual to try and diagnose the problem, and how to replace parts if you decide to go that route.

I took the lower panel off , possibley the lower drum bearing, Also it has been leaking in the bottom, throwing water out during the spin cycle, looks like there may be a seal at the bottom of the tub???????? water is comming off the 'aluminum hub' just below the tub. now what ?
