It was filling and quit. I diagnosed it as the timer. I ordered the new timer and installed but it will only do wash, spin, drain and will not move automatically through the cycle with the new timer. Could the new timer be bad from the factory? If not is there some way to reset or what would you look at next?

Sounds like the new timer is bad, but before you return it disconnect it and clean all of the contacts at both the timer and motor switch ends with contact cleaner and reseat securely.
