How are the spill trays removed on the above model? Burners seam to be part of the tray.

Hello, Removing the spill trays on this unit is simple, providing you have the correct tool and the brass tubes are not stuck. Below is a step by step: 1) Unplug / Turn off breaker. There's power below the spill trays, so it's safest to work on the unit with it powered down.
2) Remove Grates, trim strips between trays and burner caps.
3) Using a 20mm socket, unscrew the brass venturi tubes.
4) Remove burner base.
Do this to all of the spill trays you want to remove.
Once the bases have been removed you can lift them out. If they've never been removed they will be held in with a strip of double-sided foam tape on the front and rear edge, so you may have to pull a little harder. Once they're lifted you'll have to unplug the spark wire. At that point they're completely free.
Installation is the reverse, but you may want to add some anti-seize grease to the brass venturi tubes to prevent then from freezing up in the future.

It sounds so easy, but as I posted before, my venturi bolts are stuck pretty tight. So tight I was using a large Easy Out to turn the thing. This worked - BUT - I only broke the small cast iron bracket beneath the cook top, the nut below is just turning with the venturi.
Do you know of an avenue I might pursue to find a way of holding the nut still? I'm loath to call any local tech; I'm afraid they won't have enough working knowledge of Thermador, only to make a house call and tell me there's nothing they can do.

Here's a video on how to remove those 20 mm Venturi tubes. Those are tricky to get off. This video shows several ways to get them off https://youtu.be/M2RpVF6QYtk
