Fridge runs and cools fine, however when it shuts off it makes a loud clunking noise. After removing the back panel on fridge it appears to be coming from the compressor. Is this something that can be fixed or is it time to chuck the whole fridge and buy new one?

Does sound like the compressor is on its last legs.
It is not repairable as it is inside the compressor.
It could run for months perhaps even longer but you cannot trust it.
I would replace the unit and you could turn this one into a beer fridge or give it away as a beer fridge.
That way when it finally does fail you will not loose a lot of frozen food.
