My Tappan elec. dryer model TDE336RBW2 began a high pitched squeal recently and became very hot (once). I think it is a bearing problem because it still runs ok. I read in another post of a "prev main kit" part #5304461262. This kit is for a different model Tappan dryer. Is this kit compatible with my dryer?

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for FRIGIDAIRE TDE336RBW2 Tap(v2) / Electric Dryer | AppliancePartsPros.com

See the last Item in Section 1.
Does not look as if the bearing kit for this unit (see below) has as many parts as the kit you mentioned. I would only use a kit that comes up for the correct model number.
Open the unit up and then you can decide what needs replacing.
Sometimes the bearing kit needs to be used due to wear but other times it only has to be cleaned and re-greased using a high temp grease.
Check the belt, idler wheel, front glides, drum seals etc. for wear and slop and replace as necessary.
