I am having trouble with a rebuild. The new motor starts sporatically and shuts down spontaneously. The tranny and brakes appear OK as I can agitate with the tranny input shaft by hand and can release the brakes with the tranny shaft by hand in the other direction. The start switch, start capacitor, and motor windings test OK. I removed the motor and noticed that the shaft is hard to turn by hand, The old motor shaft spins easily by hand. Which is normal?
Thanks,
George

Motor shaft should turn pretty easily with slight force...

It was the motor. The windings all tested within range but the shaft was hard to turn. The replacement runs fine.
