The lid on my Gibson chest freezer (Model GFC09M3AD0) keeps falling down. Since it is about 16 years old, I assume that it might need new springs. Am I correct? If so, where can I get them and are they hard to replace? Thanks for your help.

Looks like you have to purchase new hinges

One thing to check is the weight of the lid.
It could be that over time cold air has been able to get into the lid assembly. This the causes water to condense in the lid which gets the insulation wet which makes the problem worse etc. etc. etc. till the door get so full if ice that it is too heavy for the hinges.
