The ice in the bin is frozen together like water ran out of the ice tray mold and over the cubes in the bin. Sometimes ice cubes are behind the bin on the shelf. sometimes the cubes are hollow and sometimes they're completely formed. What to do?

Hi Mike, Most likely the problem is a bad water inlet valve (on the back of the fridge). Also I would check if there is an in-line water filter on the back and if there is one - how old is it. They do not last more than a year. - The part number for the water inlet valve is AP3085178 Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool refrigerator Model ED5NTQXKT01Gene.

Gene,
What you recommended made sense. In retrospect, we had noticed an increase in the amount of time it takes to fill a glass of water long before I had the ice cube problem. Perhaps that was a sign of what was to come.
I replaced the water inlet valve as you recommended and it is working great. Thanks for your attention to my issue.

Mike,
I'm glad you were able to fix it.
Gene.
