While preheating to make a pizza last night my wife says that the oven isn't working right. So I go to see what the problem is. As I'm looking through the oven door window it suddenly looks like someone is welding in there!! Lots of pops, sparks, flame for a short time and plenty of smoke. Ok, so the element has blown but now the digital display isn't working either. Thankfully the stove top still works. How do I tell if it's more than just the oven element that is toast?

Looks like the heating element got shorted and caused damage to the control board (aka a clock). The solution is to replace both the Bake heating element and the control board. The control board has to be replaced together with the overlay because it's glued on.
