new water / ice maker valve is slow to open and slow to close after glass is removed. is valve defective or incorrect? valve part number crossed over from wirlpool number and is after market.

The water inlet valve on the back where the water supply connects must be leaking some before it completely closes off. This can be caused by wear or sediment in the valve. Disconnect the line coming out of the valve and try the water dispenser watching to see if it keeps dripping after you stop.
