The water flow through the door dispenser in my GE refrigerator had been extremely slow for a month or so, and recently it completely stopped. As soon as I changed out the filter, the flow perked up and water began to rush out like it should when we engaged the dispenser. Well, it's been about a week now since we changed out the filter and once again, the water flow through the dispenser has come to a stop. I'd hate to have to invest another $40 in a filter so soon. Could there be some other problem?

Thx

So What was the outcome? I seem to have the exact same problem i.e GE Profile Refrigerator, 5-6 years old, water in door was slow so I changed the water filter using GE filter fom Lowe's, immediately thereafter it was great but within a week, it gradually slowed to a little more than a dribble. I put in the bypass plug and it worked great so I thought something was wrong with the filter and returned it. Then I put in a new one and the same thing has happened. Worked great for a few days then gradually slowed until its a pain to use it. Does anyone have an answer or should I just trash the filter and use the bypass plug?

Do you have the refer water hooked up to an RO "reverse osmosis" water system?

I am not hooked up to a reverse osmosis system - comes straight from the city water supply.

You installed the adapter for the filter and made sure it was tight correct?. Next thing I would look at is down at your crisper drawer there is a plastic light shield, make sure this shield is in place, if not your water tank can freeze. if that is in place, look at the water tank, if you have any brown buildup in the tank, the tank would need to be replaced as it is being restricted, and putting in the filter restricts it eaven more.....let me know what you find.

The adapter is tight. The light shield on the crisper is in place. I don't see where the tank is but I don't think it is frozen because when I take the filter out and use the bypass plug, it works great. I wouldn't expect that to work if the tank was frozen.
