fellow tech went out on call with unit had massive ice build up replaced thermostat motherboard and heater basic shotgun but problem continues i went today and could only think problem is the 2 sensors 1 at the top and 1 at bottom advice would be nice on freezer side . how often do they go out?

They don’t go out very often but some of them were consistently giving problems. There is a picture on this page that will help identify the faulty thermistors. GE Refrigerator Repair Guide scroll down to the thermistor section.

You can check them from the board but the main problem is you don’t know the temperature of the thermistor especially if you have just defrosted it. I find it better if you test them in a cup of ice water as explained on the page above.
