I have a Kenmore Elite, Side-By-Side, refrigerator that uses a Whirlpool ice maker, and both these symptoms started at the same time:

1) My ice maker would not turn off and ice overflows from the bucket.

2) Water drips out of the ice maker and formes icicles on the freezer baskets.

I'm not sure if my problem is the Emmitter and Receiver LED Control Boards mounted on the side walls, which is just a switch;

or

the ice maker needs replacing

or

the Water Inlet Valve needs replacing.

What's your opinion lon the above since I don't want to replace all these parts if I don't need to.

And I would like to know what is the control device for the Water Inlet Valve?

Thank you very much!

FIXED! I replaced just the Emmitter and Receiver LED Control Boards.

Note: The water valve is connected to the ice maker, but from the circuit diagram it looks like the control from the water valve comes from the Receiver LED Control Board.

Does anyone know the wave length and/or part # to replace the LED Emmitter and Receiver? This are very cheap parts and it seems to me anyone with a soildering iron could replace them instead of spending $80-$100 plus a repair man bill.
