We found our freezer door ajar - it is unknown for how long but some of the items near the door had started to thaw. The compressor was hot to the touch so we unplugged it for several hours. Does a hot compressor mean it needs to be replaced?

Probably not yet. Make sure the condenser coil is clean and let the compressor to cool down to the room temperature.

After the compressor will start make sure the fan motor next to the compressor is running.

In case of any further questions we need the complete model number of the refrigerator.

Gene.
