Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on why my ice dispenser quit working after I had a tech come out and replace my fridge's compressor relay.

I've never had problems with the dispenser in the past, always worked. The tech only worked on the fridge in the back..where the relay is. Wondering if there might be a connection or something back there?
They claim it is unrelated.

I pulled off the trim around the dispenser and I can hear that the switch is still being activated. But the dispenser motor does not turn on. Other than testing the continuity of the switch, how do I debug the dispenser?

Thanks for your thoughts!

I just replaced the same relay on my Whirlpool fridge. The ice dispenser worked fine the first day then just decided to stop working altogether. I hear the switch click but no power to the motor. The motor turns freely so I suspect another relay shot. I can't, however, see how it would be related to the start/stop relay on the compressor. Totally separate functions.

My ice dispenser quit working and here’s what I found.

Maybe part of this can help you guys..

I pulled the front cover off the dispenser and noticed the little black switch to the upper left on the ice dispenser side was loose. The little plastic bracket that held it in place was broke so when someone pushed on the ice lever, it wouldn’t push the button on the switch. It probably broke from people pushing to hard on the lever.

A little strip of gaffers tape (colored cloth tape like duct tape) to hold the switch in place and it holds just right. Works like a charm. Don’t know how long it’ll last and I’ll probably just get the new part later but it works now.

Note – The front panel wires must be connected before the dispenser will work. Thought the switch was bad till I plugged the front panel back in.
