Hi. I started my maytag washer (LAT8214AAE) last night and it began to fill before stopping completely. I advanced knob to spin, and it works, but now will only spin and doesn't fill or wash. Two questions:

1. Does the fact that is still spins rule out the lid switch assembly?
2. If not the lid switch assembly, is it the water pressure switch?

Thanks.

If the machine will spin the lid switch is not the problem.

See if it will fill on any cycle. Since it will not agitate I suspect your water pressure switch is ok, but your timer may need replacing.

Here is the service manual which may give you some ways to check things out.

Thanks for the reply sidfink, I appreciate it. I actually opened her up the other night and found the lid switch fuse blown. Popped in a new one and she's up and running.

Interesting, and glad you got it fixed. Check to make sure the machine stops when the lid is raised; something unusual there.

Thanks for the update.

Hello again Sidfink,

Machine actually doesn't stop when the lid is raised...any ideas? It's still running, but I'm concerned about future problems.

Thanks.

Dear Sidfink,

My Maytag Washer has developed the extact same problem. I guess I'll try replacing the fuse tonight to see if it will fix it.

Hi Jdential

It sounds like somehow the lid switch has been by-passed, which could be from a short in the wiring which is allowing continuity even when the switch is open. Usually when the lid switch is bad the machine will not operate, in your case it operates all the time.

I would open it up again and check all of the wiring going to and coming from the lid switch. If it is ok, I suggest you replace the lid switch, because it is a safety issue. I know several supposedly intelligent adults who have broken bones from getting a hand or arm stuck in a spinning washer.
