I have a Kenmore top load washer that I bought a year or two ago on Craig's list and it works great however lately it is making a catching sound. It seems like the agitator auger is slipping. It doesn't catch every time it should. It still works but it seems like it needs to be replaced. I am wondering if that is all that would need to be replaced or what people suggest. My husband is very handy and I am wondering how difficult it is to repair as well.

Sounds like the agitator dogs or cams need to be replaced, an easy and inexpensive job. Just take off the agitator by removing the fabric softener piece, then the cap inside, then the 7/16" bolt. There are four dogs which will need to be replaced. This video will also show you how. YouTube - Broken Whirlpool/Kenmore Washing Machine Agitator Fix
