Would like to verify that this could be the timer before I order the part. Also would like some help on removing the front cover on this particular model to access the timer.

Your problem can be the timer or the speed control board, and you need to test to see if voltage is getting to the board. The manual will tell you how to to that, and when you find out which one is defective you can replace it.
