My washer won't let me open the door when it is done. Sometimes it just gets stuck and keeps on spinning all day and when it does stop it won't let me open it. Any help at all would be appreciated. Whirlpool Frontloader.

In order to provide most accurate advise I need the complete model number of the washer.

The model number is behind the locked door.

Unfortunately I'm not able to find any useful information without the model number.
Remove the bottom panel and check for the tech sheets. The complete troubleshooting instructions suppose to be there.
Gene.

If a Whirlpool Duet model, go to web site www.appliancejunk.com and download the Duet job aid. There should be info in there to open the door. If not, just yank open the door, you may bust the latch strike but they are cheap. Uh I just found out if you remove the kick panel under the door, you will find a ring to pull on the door lock mechanism on the left side, just pull down!!!

Hmm, I am sorry. But, this is easy. (Rich is right)
Remove the lower panel (3 screws under the lower tab of teh front lower panel). There is an emergency release tab on the bottom of the door switch to manually release the door. Unplug the washer and reach up to the bottom of the switch. You will feel a plastic loop shaped tab. Pull down on the tab to release the door.
Gene, I do not mean to sound rude, but, the complete model and serial number is not needed to give technical advice, just experience with the machines.

can anyone tell me how to replace the door latch? My daughter broke the handle while forcing the door open. I replaced the handle, but it looks like the latch on the washer (receiver end) is broken. Is it difficult? Do I need to have a repair person do it?
thanks for your help...strapped for money, so simple would be good!

I have no idea why it was recommended to pry the door open. That is NOT a good idea.
Yes replacing the latch is doable for a shade tree mechanic.
You need a torx head screwdriver to remove the switch mounting screws, though.
First, pull the tub boot from the front edge of the cabinet. It is merely held into a groove by a spring (do not remove the boot from the tub, just the front of the cabinet while leaving it attached to teh tub). Then reach around through the opening you made by removing the boot from the front of the cabinet and pull the switch through that opening.
Piece of cake (I just changed one this week). ;)
