Three year old dishwasher heater is fading, but not out. The unit use to show steam coming out of vent, but no more. When finished, the inside is warm, but not hot. Suspect Thermister, Thermostat failing. I just don't enough about these units to know what controls what. I don't believe the heater element is bad, but it could be failing also. Suggestions??, before the wife goes out and spends $400 on a new one for a $20 part.

Hi Ken, The first thing I would do is check the heating element and the hi-limit thermostat (#30 on the tub parts break down diagram) for continuity. Post your findings. Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool dishwasher Model GU1200XTLB1Gene.
