Remove the screws around the outer case on the back and, possible, on the bottom. Pull it up and out from the back of the microwave.

Thanks Gene. But I am more confused as to what the outer case is now. We simply want to take the one touch open panel button out to repair inside because pushing the one touch panel button is not opening the microwave door. Can you share anymore diagrams on how to open the outer case?

The best access to this button is from inside the microwave. That's why you have to remove the outer case.

This seems to be common problem. The screws are "tamper proof" so I bought the special multi-screwdriver at Home Dept. It's a star type pattern BUT the center is hollow on the bit.
I ordered the part from the site and popped it within seconds and put the cover back on. Fixed! Be sure to stay away from the capacitor in the back after you make sure it is unplugged. I believe the part I replaced was part 7 in diagram two.
My microwave was GT4175spt2 by the way....
If anyone has any questions, just post here. If I can do it, anyone can! :)
Also, it's cheesy this thing broke. They should replace it the hinge part of the part with metal.

Gene. Hi, I have same problem with Whirlpool Model GT4175SPQ. To get to control panel do I just have to remove the outer case as shown in Item 4 of oven cavity?
