I'm trying to do a repair to the lid assembly. My machine will not spin. A local service tech said to get the lid open and cut the two grey wires and splice them together. I need help in getting the lid raised up. I've been using flat head screwdrivers to try and lift but this isn't working. Just trying to prevent a service repair bill. Someone please help.

If you get the right lid switch you will not have to cut the wires. To replace the lid switch you have to remove the case of the washer. This page will help Whirlpool Washer Disassembly Guide

THe hinges that are on the lid assembly. I had to put a screwdriver down in the hole to release them, but now I don't remember which way they go back in correctly.
Problem has been solved. Machine is back together and working fine.
