At first the dryer quit heating. I replaced the heating element and the high limit thermostat and the thermal cutoff and cleaned the unit out. I also cleaned out the duct where the air flows to the outside. I am thinking that the unit might be overheating when it starts making this loud noise (not sure). I am not sure what else to do.

Boy, hard to tell without being there to listen to it. I don't think overheating would cause the noise, so I would tear it down again, and make sure everything is back together properly. You might want to replace the rollers, belt and idler pulley and see if that cures it.

If it is overheating you should be able to tell by the top getting hot rather than warm to the touch.
