I was trying to change one of the bulbs out and I must have shorted it out because it exploded, now since I got the bulb changed out I cannot get the lamps to work properly, they won't change from HI to LO or off, they are on all the time, what did I screw up???

The electrical short in the light bulb socket caused a damage to the control board. The correction is to replace the control board. - The part number for the control board is AP3418930 Here are the break down diagrams for the Hotpoint microwave Model RVM1435BD002Gene.

Yes, GE sold this part for $165.25, but you can buy it from Appliance Parts Pros for only $104.68 and it makes the repair much more affordable.
