My dryer has a burning smell. Nothing is on the elements. They seem to heat too hot. It would burn your hand to touch the back, inside top, of the dryer. Even when you turn the dryer to delicate it is very hot.

Hi Jim,
The first two failure suspects are: the clogged vent and the shorted to ground heating element.
Disconnect the vent hose from the dryer and run couple of loads without the vent hose.
Remove the back cover and check the heating element for continuity to ground.
Remove the air duct on the back of the dryer and clean it. Check the blower wheel.
Gene.
