I would get a thermometer and check the temperature in the freezer.
One way to do it is to immerse a thermometer in a glass of cooking oil or just put it between a couple bags of vegetables. Leave it for 12 hours of so. Should be 0 to 5 degrees |

most likely...stuck thermostat. does the compressor ever cut out. I'm betting no. you would not notice a problem in the freezer because "frozen is frozen" but when your milk freezes you notice. change thermostats. bet that fixes it.

Should be 0 to 5 degrees freezer temp checked several times at several temp settings. temp ranges from 0 degrees to minus 5 degrees. refer box now reading 25 degrees. compressor does cycle. if you feel strongly that new thermostat will fix problem i will order one. at over $40. i do not want to buy one and find that that is not the problem. many thanks for your imput.

Since your freezer temperatures look normal I would be more inclined towards the damper not working correctly.
Check to see if at 25 degrees it is totally closed.
Perhaps try blocking half of it off. |

have tried all the things suggested. refer vent closed at 25 degrees. have blocked vent in foam cover from half to complete block off and no improvement. refer compartment still freezing.
??? very frustrating.

By the process of elimination I think the only thing left is the thermostat. It's highest temp of 0 is within spec but perhaps it should be 5 above on this unit.
You have done a thorough job of troubleshooting and sometimes you end up having to go with what is the most likely cause. The freezer thermostat has an effect on both freezer and fresh food so it is now at the top of the list.
I would replace the thermostat. |

thanks for all the help. you are providing a great service for people like me that live in remote areas and far away from any type of service or parts.
