I have a 2 1/2 year old Maytag Quiet Series 400 model MDB9601AWB serial 37604056LJ June 7, 2007 dishwasher. Until recently, it was doing a great job of cleaning dishes. About a month or so ago, the display dropped to the bottom half being lit - no real problem in itself other than annoying but recently one can enter the wash type selections on the top of the door but the unit is extremely fickle to start when you push the start button on the front, near the display. The latch seems to be functioning but I have not checked the continuity on the switch. It appeared someone was able to get a similar type issue to work by cleaning the contacts on the board/ribbon cable. What needs replacing? The entire display? The mother board? The door switch?

Have you tried this. If not see below. What needs replacing? The entire display? The mother board? The door switch? Cannot say, you have to do more troubleshooting re: checking the keypad with a meter, checking the door switches etc. Even then it may come down to what has the best odds, so it can be a bit of a crap shoot. Connector Cleaning Unplug the unit Open it up Remove the ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board at the control board. Clean the edge connector. If it is the type where there is not a connector just the insulation is removed, it can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser as it is too abrasive. Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for hairline cracks. A magnifying glass helps here. Would not hurt to clean the connector on the board. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. Be gentle and do not reconnect till all the solvent evaporates. Reconnect everything and give it a try. |

Thanks for the "tech sheet". I see there are some things on there that I can try.
I determined that the micro switches were functioning properly. This type of ribbon cable is new to me. I might try taking that off and cleaning again. From your message it appears that the very tip of the ribbon is the actual contact. I could do a better job on the board connection as well - using a toothbrush. It is possible that contacts are dirty but is the LED display split so that the 1/2 not working is the matter of a contact or LED failure?
The delay/start/LED display are not broken down on the parts diagram thus I may end up getting the whole assembly. I guess another night of trouble shooting will work as those units are currently out-of-stock.

It is possible that contacts are dirty but is the LED display split so that the 1/2 not working is the matter of a contact or LED failure?
Unfortunately they do not tell or show how they run the LED so it could be either of the above |
