I purchased my Whirlpool Fridge, model WRQA59CNKZ01, less than 10 months ago. Last week it began producing a strong odor of acetone/alcohol inside the refrigerator compartment. When I unplugged the fridge, the smell went away. It's not noticeable outside the unit, but overwhelming when I open the door. The temperature is holding steady around 40 degrees (even though it's set at 37). Information I've read online suggests that it could be a coolant leak. However, the Whirlpool repair tech said that can't be the case, since it's still cooling. He refused to come check it out and said it must be from rotten fruit.

Hi, **Information I've read online suggests that it could be a coolant leak.** Incorrect, it would not be cooling if there was an refrigerant leak. This -might- help... https://www.applianceaid...frigerator-odor-tips.php** He refused to come check it out and said it must be from rotten fruit. ** If it is still under warranty, kinda hard to believe that they could say no!?! I'd be inclined to book a warranty call for a noise and odour complaint ;) Might also be a good idea to remove everything from the refrigerator and wash it out as something can go bad weeks ago and you threw it out....but the plastic sucks in the odour and keeps giving it off. A good cleaning may help. JMO! jeff sr. Edited by user Tuesday, May 14, 2024 7:55:18 AM(UTC)
