Based on the picture/video that you provided my guess is the upper bearing is badly worn and the hub may also be worn on the ID where the bearing would normally be seated. You will have to dismantle this to find out for sure but my guess is that the shaft is not worn. Those shafts are pretty hard. If the shaft is worn the transmission is in need of being rebuild and not practical in terms of cost unless you find a scrap washer with a good transmission. I am suprised that this machine would run at all!!!

Fredgilb, based on the video, the transmission has an internal issue that is allowing the agitator drive shaft to wiggle around excessively. This will cause it to not engage with the pinion gears. Unfortunately, this would require the transmission be replaced. However, the manufacturer has discontinued the transmission 34526P and the substitute SQ3426P and neither are available.

Speed Queen units last a long time. I work on some that are 30 to 40 years old !
