So, from time to time, my 10 year old Kitchen-aid KSSP42QTS00 leaks a little from the ice-dispenser.

Lately, it's making ice fine, although they sometimes are all bunched together and have a frost coating to them. But now, there seems to be a decent constant flow(not a drip really) from under the flap of the ice dispenser. I also noticed that the flapper doesn't stay shut which may be the issue. The little water tray where you put the cup to fill it is getting full after 6-8 hours or so. It's a built-in fridge and expensive to replace, so I usually come here to try to fix other items previously and had good luck.

It's not a huge drip, but big enough to need me to take a paper towel every morning to wipe up the 4-5 inch puddle.

Any ideas what it could be and what I need to get to fix it?

Thanks,

Sternern

Sternern,

It sounds like there is an issue with the ice door in which the door is not closing all the way. You will want to check to ensure that the tab that holds the pin for the ice door is not broken. If it is you will try to see if you can find part number 8201756 Broken tab ice door kit. If it is not broken then you would need to get just the ice door as it is most likely damaged.

Im guessing it sounds like maybe I just go ahead and replace the following items:

1. Ice Door Motor and Bracket Assembly WPW10546285 / AP6022812

2. Ice Dispenser Chute Door WP2180353 / AP6005973

For the roughly $70, it would make sense to do both at the same time. Do you think that makes sense? I just want to make sure I am replacing the proper parts based on the symptoms.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks for your input.

Sternern,

Yes, that would be the most objective thing to do.

Awesome and thanks for the reply. I just ordered the parts. I will look online for videos on how to replace these parts.
