I have an Amana AFD2535DEQ refrigerator/freezer. Every few years it needs the Compressor Start Device to be replaced or needs to be unplugged for 2 hours to get things working. Now the Compressor Start Device is in need of replacement less than 6 months later. I've replaced it maybe 4X over 15 years. I've the bought parts online. Is it possible the parts I'm getting are low quality or is it time to toss this thing? Thanks!

Norsemen, it is likely that the compressor is starting to draw excess current to start and as a result, the start device is failing sooner than normal. An amp meter can be used to identify if this is the case. The compressor should have a full load draw of 1.09 Amps when it is in operation. More than this would indicate a sealed system failure.
