We have an old Kitchenaid K5SS stand mixer that is in very good shape for its age. The only problem we have with it is that the bowl will tend to pop out of the arm latches when kneading bread dough.

The bowl is snapped into place. The holes on the bowls fit the pins snugly, the latch snaps in with good force. When kneading bread with the dough hook, the adhesion of the dough to the bowl wall and the motion of the dough hook will tend to pull the bowl out of the latch and off the pins.

This started occurring in the past 6 months. We have two bowls but tend to use both randomly, so don't have any obvious correlation to the bowl. Problem is worse on high speeds, which makes sense.

Just finished a batch of whole wheat bread dough. On "Stir" (lowest setting), the bowl arm has a noticeable movement around the vertical support piece. As the setting was increased to 4, the movement became more pronounced. This time the bowl didn't pop out when mixed on setting 4, but it has happened before.

I understand how the dough "stickiness" will allow the hook to transfer a pulling force on the bowl wall. I need to make a batch of cookie dough to see if it behaves similarly.

Here's a link to a video of the play in the arm that we see:

Is the metal arm piece simply worn out?
