Hello all,

We have a Whirlpool electric range (model: YWFE745H0FH0) that's 6 years old. This morning my wife said she was using it and it made some noise and either smoke or vapor came out of it. Now it's not heating properly anymore.

I tried turning it on to Bake at 350F, the default setting. It heats up, the electronic display on the console shows it heating up but it takes too long to reach the set temp (stalls around 285F). I'm wondering if a thermostat or temperature sensor has blown ?

Thanks for any advice on this.

OK, I found the problem: the main heating element (at the bottom, under the bottom plate of the inner over chamber), which I replaced last year, is completely finished! It seems that the "strange incident" involved the element undergoing a complete meltdown! It is now in at least 3 pieces...

It may have something to do with an "AquaLift" cleaning cycle having been done recently. It involves water, and I'm wondering if a certain amount of moisture wound up under the bottom oven plate, in contact with the element. Result: short-circuit !

Not sure though, but if that's the case, I would say that Whirlpool's so-called "AquaLift technology" needs some revising...
