Hello. I have a Maytag Atlantis Oversize Capacity plus MAV7700AWW that has been a beast (in a good way) for 20 years!
Currently the machine will fill with water, but when it gets to the cycle it will not move. And sometimes has a loud buzz to go along with it. If I manually move to spin, same response clicking and buzzing. There is also a faint burning smell if I leave the timer going too long. The timer switch still clicks and sounds like it is trying to move.
Lid switch is working. I’ve taken the pump off and checked it, no blockages, took motor off, it turns with no lockup.
My guess is that the motor has probably just burnt out? Any other ideas. Would love to be able to fix this one.

Try taking the belt off and turning the transmission pulley by itself, by hand. One direction it should agitate, the other direction and it should spin. If its locked up, then the transmission is bad. They are NLA.

Also you can take the belt off and see if the motor will still run both directions. My guess is the transmission is bad.

20 years is very good for a washer.
