I have a KitchenAid trash compactor Model#xxxxxxxxxx that has been running almost flawlessly for 10 years.

All of the sudden instead of the rotary start switch initiating the full compact cycle to run, the rotary switch needs to be held in the on/run position for the entire cycle to run.

I am being told that there is a "motor" start switch on the motor that has failed and that a new motor is required for $6xx. I am told that it is not the starter switch behind the rotary turn mechanism but the "sister switch" that is on the motor...any ideas?
