I've done several things on my own:
- verified bottom freezer works just fine as well as water filler in door
- verified ice maker works if I manually fill with water so clearly the problem is lack of water
- thought it was valve solenoid so I replaced but still doesn't work, a $100+ lesson
- discovered how to run diagnostics and verified it thinks bucket empty

I read if the temp is too high the water may not flow and I ran diagnostics on ICE thermistors. Said reading was over 600! I tried to find where the thermistor is located so I run an ohm meter across the leads but can't find any online information on that level of detail nor any youtube videos though I suspect they're out there somewhere.

I looked at this video
which had a comment about replacing ice make AND thermistor assembly. Is that true? IS the thermistor buried in the ice makes assembly?

Is there a way to force water to be sent to ice maker just to make sure there are no blockages and that the solenoid is working correctly? Maybe some diagnostic setting?

thanks in advance
