Have the dryer for 17 years and it is GREAT.. started to make some sounds recently and today a rubber type squeal from the FRONT DOOR area... that went away after 5 minutes.

I see the exploded view of the parts on this site but what I can't determine is how is what is ROTATING THE DRUM ? I see the 4 suspension rollers and belt listed but I only see reference to the blower motor (for the hot air to dry the clothes).

The belt appears in the front of the diagram but no other pulley or drive motor that I can see.

What drives the drum ?

Thank you in advance.

Part no.424 is the idler pulley also known as the belt tensioner.

Part 280 is the belt.

I'd suspect one of the front drum support rollers. There is a kit available that has all the parts needed.

I am not sure about this model of GE dryer but all of the GE units I have worked on do not use rollers at the front but rather a plastic ring to sup[port the drum. You will need to dismantle the unit and check all the rotating parts including the idler roller for wear and/or damage . The belt is also likely damaged.

While that would be true on most GE dryers, its not true on this one. It has 4 support rollers, much like a WP dryer. If you had looked it up you would know that. link below.
