I've got an older Maytag upright freezer that has lived in my garage for the past few years. I stopped using it a couple of years ago because it was no longer getting cold. I moved it down into the basement and assumed it was the start relay (the fridge also in the garage went around the same time and this solved it), so I swapped it out and it seemed like it was cooling down. However, even at coldest setting, it will cycle from about 25 degrees then up to about 38 degrees every 12 hours. It shoots up to 38 very quickly then takes about 6 hours to get back down to around 25 where it crawls down a degree or so for the next 6 hours before shooting back up to 38 (takes less than an hour). Does this sound like a thermostat problem or something else? I guess it would be working ok if it were getting down to 0 degrees and shooting up to 15 degrees, but it won't get colder than 25.
