This is a rental and nice Frigidaire refrigerator came with it. It's never made ice and i felt lucky at least that it does produce the water and so, having not too much experience, I can't even tell you if the ice maker is "on" because it has everything on the pad where you get the water and i didn't want to mess it up and lose getting the water if i was to attempt to move the frige or find out how it works. The ice maker has a curly drill like in the compartment that i expect that it churns the ice cubes and would haul them toward the opening where they would drop down if applied. It might be just as well to ask maintenance for their input on seeing if it can make ice. It does get loud at night specially and makes chattering noises like it's trying to produce the ice.
