Dryer is making heat, up to temps we're used to, but takes a while to get there.

Working correctly on timed dry cycles, but when set to sensor dryness, that knob doesn't budge and dryer will run forever. I can't figure out where, in the drum, there is a dryness sensor. Do I now need to replace the mechanism behind that knob?
