I just replaced the motor on my 30-year-old Kenmore (Whirlpool) electric dryer after determining it was the source of a loud squealing noise. The dryer now runs quietly but when I press the Start button, it makes a loud click sound. I lifted the top to determine the source of the sound. It seems to be coming from the rear right side, in the general area of the motor and the idler pulley. The click only happens when the start button is pressed - it does not occur when the dryer is running. I assume it’s a switch engaging, but the dryer has never made a sound before when starting. The original Whirlpool motor was part #3391888 and the new one is #279827 (this is the replacement for the now discontinued original). Is is normal for a clicking sound to occur when starting a dryer with this motor?
Thank you.

I've put a lot of those in and never had a problem with one. That doesn't mean you couldn't have a bad one. The start switch on motor kind of clicks. Does your dryer have a relay in addition to its start switch?
It might get quieter once the motor loosens up. Do you smell anything getting hot?
