The unit is halting and hesitant in the agitation mode. It tries to advance and then I hear a switching noise and it gives up and then tries again moving only a fraction forward. As though it tries and some kind of fault halts its progress and then it tries again to agitate. I have replaced the dogs previously and it is trying to advance forward but switches off.
I am hoping this makes sense as it is hard to describe this behavior. Almost like someone is turning the power supply off an on quickly and each time the washer attempts to agitate but gets nowhere.
TIA

Upon further investigation this happens in the spin cycle also. Quickly switching on and off and not gaining enough momentum to achieve actual spin of the drum. Quick audible click on and off.
Letting the unit rest for awhile and then coming back it did start agitating as normal for a few seconds and then resumed the quick on and off switching experienced in both agitation and spin cycles,
