Hey,
I have a thermador double oven model SEC302BW/01. Both ovens were being used and we were standing directly in front of them. Three loud "pops" coinciding with sparks and what appeared to be the flickering of flames could be seen through the grill between the two ovens. Both were immediately shut off. The upper oven works fine but the lower no longer heats up. The fan (cooling?) does go on as well as the light when the door is opened. I called a repair person. They took a bunch of photos and removed the grill between the ovens.....looked on their phones for a bit and said it was the Hi limit thermostat. The repair would be costly if they could reach in the small space and replace the item.....and over double the cost if they needed to remove the unit from the wall to get to the item. There is a small round screen in the back roof part of the oven that looks like it is the cover for the thermostat. Is there a way to remove the thermostat from the inside of the bottom oven and test?....I would think they would have done so before telling me it needed replacement....heck...I want to do this as well. If it is failed I would think the sparks and fire was some of the wiring being melted....I'm guessing that I will have to remove ovens to get to the back panel to repair the wire too. Is there a way to check for codes?...I remember years ago when we first moved in there was a code and the unit was fixed under warranty.
thanks

Anyone? Bueller?

I removed the round screen cover from the back of the oven assuming that was the problem........it's just a round screen cover?....not sure what it does? I removed the grill from between the ovens and with a long flashlight can clearly see the evidence of something burnt. When facing the oven the burnt mark is just in front of and to the right of the fan. There are four screw heads and the burn mark looks to be more towards the rear of the heads..I'm guessing those screws are holding whatever burned. Does anyone know what is under there? What burned? Is that where the thermostat is? I can't believe the repair tech could possible "reach his hand inside to replace"........I'm assuming one needs to remove the oven from the wall and take out the panels in back just to access. I unscrewed the unit from the wall and pulled it out partway...I need to build a cradle of some sort to place the oven onto. Any good diagrams that will help direct me to what is placed under the burned mark?
