Help requested from those more handy than I...

We have a KitchenAid/Whirlpool range with a simmer then powerboil double burner in the front left. A pot boiled over that I believe has clogged the gas port. Igniter works fine and there will be flashes when the gas ignites briefly. I can remove the caps without difficulty, I can also remove the outer burner plate, but I cannot seem to remove the plate for the inner simmer portion. It is probably this gas port that is clogged. If I cannot light the smaller simmer burner, it in turn will not light the larger burner. I have tried a toothbrush, cleaning products, toothpick, but I can't even see where the gas comes out of this smaller plate. Help!

The other burners are fine.
