Hello all,

I have a Viking Nugget Ice Maker, model FPNI515. This is the model with a pump located underneath the ice bin as opposed to gravity drained.

Recently, I noticed that the pump comes on and continues to stay on for much longer than normal. I would say under normal operation the pump would only stay on several seconds, and then automatically shut off.

Lately, the pump has been coming on and staying on for minutes at a time.

I have been trying to diagnose the problem and here's what I have come up with so far:

1) The pump itself seems to be working just fine and there are no kinks in the hose leading to the discharge end. I have verified this by inspecting the hose and running some dye-colored water through it. The flow rate through the discharge hose seems to be very fast and smooth. The ice bin gets emptied quite quickly with zero issues when I pour water in it.

2) The pump is staying on well after the water seems to be completely emptied from the ice bin. I have verified this by removing all ice from the bin and just pouring water into it. All of the water empties and you can hear air being sucked out of the drain hole in the back. Yet the pump continues.

3) The pump will also turn itself on/off and run for ten or so seconds even with a bone dry ice bin and the ice making turned off. This is the state I am currently in. The bin has been empty now for days. The ice maker has been shut off for days as well. Yet, the pump is still running and cycling throughout the day/night.

Could I just have a bad pressure switch? The part number for the pressure switch is: 022574-000. However, I don't want to just start buying replacement parts if there's a simple fix.

Could I have a back flow issue from the drain back into the pump?
