I just bought a used Maytag Centennial, model MVWC300XW1. Warranty is expired already and it started making a loud, intermittent, metallic grinding noise during the wash cycle. The noise is in sync with the agitator.
The washer suddenly stopped making this noise mid-cycle, but it now won't spin at all during the spin cycle, it just drains, sits for a long while, then drains again and goes to done.
Based on the research I've done on this and other sites, the only common part between these two issues seems to be the drive belt or one of the pulleys.
The error codes I'm getting are F2E1 (Button held longer than 15sec.), F7E1 (Basket speed sensor fault), and F5E3 (Lid Unlock fault). I've cleared and rerun the diagnostic three times and get the same codes each time, so I don't believe there are any others. I also haven't had any issues getting it to lock and unlock, nor have I ever help the button for more than 3-5 seconds.
I don't have any experience working on washing machines, but I am an auto mechanic, so I'd really like to not have to hire someone to fix this for me. I'd really appreciate any and all help or advice you all can give!
