I realize this is a subjective query, but I would love to know from both DIY contributors as well as professionals what brands/models you recommend for reliability. Please share regardless of cost, as I'd just like to buy something reliable(meaning it will at least work five to seven years before a needed service, and have a lifespan of ten years minimum). It seems as time goes by, durable goods aren't really durable; they have merely become disposable goods. For example, I had a Samsung BAEASR something or other that was just junk. Owned the Samsung four years and took it to the dump last fall. It wasn't even worth replacing my eighteen year old fridge in the garage. I was doing full defrost on the Samsung every four to six months to repair something new each time.

Having a backup refrigerator has become a necessity, not a luxury. I'm calling in my new Whirlpool refrigerator for a warranty service on the LED lights for the second time in nine months. At least it makes ice and cools, and hasn't frozen up.... yet. I've never used a warranty in my twenty five years of home ownership on an appliance as I'm usually DIY and frankly haven't had a single issue until I renewed all my appliances five years ago. (Every new appliance I purchased in 2015 has required service in the first three to five years in my new home-GE Profile stove/oven, Whirlpool clothes washer and Samsung Fridge) For $100, I got five year parts and Labor free on my Whirlpool fridge, so I'm gladly using the warranty.

Forgive me, but I'm just searching for something that I know I won't find. I'm spoiled by my uber reliable 21 year old Toyota Land Cruiser with 400k that still purrs like a kitten. I just wish it was possible to find an appliance with a fraction of that reliability. The only appliances I own that have delivered reliability are my beer fridge which is an 18 year old side by side Frigidaire, and an 11 year old KitchenAid dishwasher, which runs 2-3 loads per day. Searching.....still haven't found what I'm looking for.....Thanks for any constructive advice!
