Our Whirlpool refrigerator began making some thunking noises a few days ago. Then we would intermittently hear a double beeping coming from the back, signaling something is wrong. When the ice cream was soft we new something was amiss. At first we thought it was just the freezer. But the refrigerator was also getting warmer.

Both were still working somewhat. There was no ice on the condenser. Using this site’s advice, we vacuumed old dust in hopes the situation would improve. It did not. We unscrewed the panel on the back and noted the fan (Condenser Motor Kit) wasn’t spinning. So we ordered a new fan. It’s coming later today I hope.

But wouldn’t you know the fan decided To kick back in two hours ago and the freezer went from 29 degrees to 5, and It’s still dropping!!

Should I still replace the fan? Intermittent problem makes me think there’s another problem. Is it the thermostat? The heater element?

The model is Whirlpool GC5SHEXNB02.
